Far more cost-effective than plugging in?

The reality of hybrid cost effectiveness
Sure, we’ve pitted the Chevy Volt against the Toyota Prius in the past, but this time we have some real numbers. Unfortunately, the numbers don’t look good. So, if you think the Volt is set to save America, you might not want to read any [...]

Is natural gas a game-changing technology? Is the Chevy Volt a game-changing technology? Doesn

Can this really change the auto industry?

Game changer? Not any time soon
The latest energy bill provides nice tax credits for natural gas vehicles. Honda executive claims, “This could be a game-changer.”
“The Volt is a game-changing product,” recently claimed a Volt executive.
Maybe. Nonetheless, shouldn’t we wait until the game actually changes before claiming a product a [...]

Nissan will match the same battery warranty as GM will on the upcoming Chevy Volt. The Nissan Leaf will come with an 8 year or 100,000 mile warranty.

8 years, 100,000 miles

Not really that shocking
And why not?
Of course Nissan is going to match GM’s battery warranty for plug-in vehicles, despite early indications suggesting a much shorter warranty. Anyway, just as the Chevy Volt will include an 8 year or 100,000 mile warranty, so to will the Nissan Leaf.
Really, this early in the game, [...]

It will be much cheaper to lease a Volt than to buy a Volt, while also alleviating battery concerns. Thus, is leasing the future of the auto industry.

Cheaper to lease than to own.

Is leasing the future of the auto industry?
The new Chevy Volt will be offered at $41,000, although the new plug-in vehicle will also qualify for a $7500 tax credit. A loaded Volt, with leather seats and a rear view camera, will cost $44,600.

Honda will update the suspension, colors and interior trim offerings for the Insight hybrid.

In need of an update

A better ride coming soon
In some respects the Honda Insight has been a failure. Sales of the hybrid have fallen fall short of Honda’s expectations and many consumers – even Consumer Reports – have slammed the shoddy ride quality of the Insight.
Fortunately, a number of new upgrades to the vehicle are [...]

Chevy Volt pricing will be announced tomorrow by GM. Minimally, the Volt

How much? We'll find out tomorrow?

Still limited by supply
Tomorrow GM will announce Chevy Volt pricing.
For now the price of the Volt is almost irrelevant, as supplies will be very limited for at least for the two years of production, and possibly much longer. Thus, I’m expecting a bit of a shock when it comes to [...]

Toyota Prius sales are down more than 15 percent compared to last year, despite great deals and relatively high gas prices in hot hybrid markets such as California.

Hybrids. All about California?

What’s the problem with the king of hybrid cars?
Compared to last year, Toyota Prius sales are down more than 15 percent. Why?
Is it the depressed California auto market still reeling from massive losses in property values? Are buyers simply waiting for plug-in vehicles? Is it gas prices? The recall scandal? All of [...]

Could consumers ever embrace a two-cylinder car? How about a two-cylinder hybrid with outrageous fuel economy and super cheap price?

Time to get un-American

Outrageously cheap and fuel efficient
In the very near future Fiat might offer a two-cylinder car for the American market. Obviously, such a vehicle – one would think – would be called a joke by most Americans. Yet, what if Fiat offered an agile, fun-to-drive 100 mpg, 2-cylinder hybrid for just $12,000?
Could such [...]

Fisker Karma invited us to their new dealership in Santa Monica, CA. We found out from Mike Sullivan, dealership owner, that the colors will be available for selection at the 2011 LA Auto Show and delivery of the cars will begin in March of 2011.
